About our Internship Program

At Sanicki Lawyers, we offer select law students practical on-the-job training while completing their studies. Our internships offer a real taste of life in a busy law firm!

Interning at Sanicki Lawyers is a great way for us to get to know each other, and to gain some real world experience.  Jonathan and Chelsea got their start at our firm through the internship program.

Internship hours are 9.30am to 5.00pm with a one hour lunch break, and dress code is business attire.

Please note we do not accept high school work experience students. Law students must have completed at least 6 law units to be eligible for an internship.

Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)

Anyone who has commenced their tertiary legal studies (LLB, JD or PLT) may apply, as long as they have completed 6 law units. Unfortunately, we do not accept high school work experience placements, or Paralegal/Legal Studies students. We also only offer internships at our Melbourne office.

No (sorry!) – all our internships are voluntary.

Internships during semester run for an initial period of four weeks, with interns coming into the office one or two full days per week. Internships during university breaks may be full time if students prefer, extending to a maximum of three weeks.

We also accept students completing placement during their Practical Legal Training. In instances where more than three weeks of placement are required, students undertake a three-week ‘trial’ period before continuation is determined.

Students who perform exceptionally may be offered further dates beyond their initial time-frame. We love taking students on board in an ongoing capacity, if the shoe fits!

Availability can vary, but if you are accepted into our program, it is likely you will be able to commence within approximately one month of receiving your offer.

The role of interns is to assist our lawyers and admin staff with anything they need completed. The workload is therefore extremely broad and general, and will include working across our different practice areas including property law, entertainment law, intellectual property and conveyancing. Tasks may include answering phones, photocopying, legal research, drafting emails, reviewing case law, attending settlements and taking notes at client meetings.

We also have a strong focus on updating our website and social media pages and require our interns to assist with writing articles, social media posts, and sourcing and uploading news updates.

You will be required to join a telephone or video interview with our Internship Coordinator before offers are made.

Interviews with us are not about blowing us out of the water with your relevant experience and outstanding grades. While these are great, we are truly looking for people who fit well into our firm’s culture, who are enthusiastic and driven, and who have strong interpersonal skills.

To apply, simply fill out the form below. You must include a cover letter, a copy of your CV, and a copy of your academic transcript (all in PDF format) to be considered. Please address your cover letter to Mia Geason and Imogen Tozer, Internship Co-Coordinators.

Once you have filled out our form, we will be in touch shortly. Good luck!
